About On-Demand MIPS Education

On-Demand MIPS education is an introduction to a deficit-sparing approach utilizing NICO’s BrainPath and Myriad technologies.  Minimally Invasive Parafascicular Surgery (MIPS) education programs cover concepts in white matter tract preservation and transsulcal approaches and introduce the most recent evidence to support safety and feasibility of subcortical surgery.

MIPS Education programs are the first step in NICO’s Minimum Education Requirements supporting neurosurgeons wanting to implement these technologies at an institution. All education content is evidence-based and vetted by thought-leading neurosurgeons around the world who have performed hundreds of cases using NICO technologies.

On-Demand MIPS Education is available anytime, anywhere!

Part I:  On-Demand MIPS Education Modules

MIPS On-Demand Education provides the opportunity for exploration of existing evidence and review of real neurosurgery experience to build understanding in key concepts of minimally invasive parafascicular surgery. Through the introduction of novel technologies, attendees will be provided a first-hand introduction to this comprehensive surgical approach with an emphasis on procedural efficiencies such as navigable trans-sulcal access and automated resection with reduced need for instrument exchange. Concepts including principles of efficient and effective minimally disruptive techniques based on enhanced respect for fascicular anatomy and common corridors will be covered. Lastly, attendees can expect to gauge the potential clinical and economic impact for practice, patients, and institution.

Part II:  Hands-on Skills Lab

A hands-on skills laboratory is the second step in NICO’s Minimum Education Requirements and can be easily scheduled during your On-Demand modules. As part of this skills lab, participants will have dedicated time to experiment with the techniques described in MIPS Education from start to finish including:

  • Exploring pre-operative imaging and planning a minimally disruptive trajectory
  • Navigating the BrainPath to the surgical target
  • Removal of tumor or vascular abnormalities with bi-manual, microsurgical skills using the NOVUS while controlling hemostasis and maximizing uniform delivery of light
  • Collection of tissue in a seamless, closed, temperature-controlled system for research with the Automated Preservation System
