Clinical Specialist / Senior Clinical Specialist / Senior Clinical Lead
The Clinical Specialist is responsible for understanding and executing the company’s annual clinical objectives and vision of revolutionizing minimally invasive neurosurgical care. This includes but is not limited to: providing on-site support and guidance to physicians and operating room staff through education and problem-solving during procedures in order to maximize appropriate utilization of NICO products, partnering with the sales team to develop and execute account strategies that lead to increased product utilization in designated territory, as well as measurement and reporting of account information.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Senior Clinical Specialist consistently demonstrates competency in key areas of the Clinical Specialist role for a minimum of 2 years and consistently demonstrates leadership among peers as a respected resource. The Senior Clinical Specialist is responsible for mentoring Clinical Specialists, leading educational team projects, and leading lab sessions at educational events.
The Senior Clinical Lead consistently demonstrates competency in key areas of the Senior Clinical Specialist role, has a successful track record supporting complex Myriad and MIPS procedures, has partnered successfully with territory teammates to build appropriate utilization at designated accounts over a period of at least 3 years, and is well respected as a leader and clinical expert within the organization. In addition to the responsibilities mentioned previously, the Senior Clinical Lead is responsible for developing and leading educational initiatives within the clinical team, including but not limited to assessing and reviewing scans for MIPS cases with the clinical team, organizing and leading team calls and educational projects, periodically updating essential resources used by the clinical team including but not limited to the Live Case Guide, and identifying creative account strategies as well as methods to improve efficiency within the organization.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Planning and Metrics
- Complete 5 Phases of Training Program, including but not limited to:
- 90 Day Onboarding Plan
- Training Classes and Assignments
- ACTO ActionPacks & Coaching Scenarios
- Develop appropriate utilization by executing account plans in designated accounts to annual corporate goals.
- Attain other annual goals established among your team.
- Complete 5 Phases of Training Program, including but not limited to:
- Demonstrate product and clinical expertise.

- Understand technical and surgical aspects of all NICO products, including but not limited to:
- Demonstrating ability to lead a Myriad demo as outlined in the Myriad Teaching Recipe.
- Educating and assessing users on most effective Myriad Novus techniques as outlined in the the Myriad Experience during demos and live surgical cases.
- Becoming a clinical expert on the MIPS approach.
- Demonstrating ability to effectively handle objections related to NICO products and the MIPS approach using data when appropriate.
- Demonstrating ability to coach through asking questions and ability to keep the users within the guidelines of the MIPS approach when appropriate.
- Lead in-services, mock ORs, and demos for all NICO products.
- Lead lab sessions at training events to educate on proper use of NICO products.
- Support live surgical cases to educate hospital staff and surgeons on proper use of NICO products.
- Understand technical and surgical aspects of all NICO products, including but not limited to:
- Complete internal educational projects as assigned.
- Maintains knowledge of industry trends, including competing or complementary technologies. May include data collection on competitively used products, such as pricing, usage trends by neurosurgeon and key personnel associated with use of competitive products.

- Demonstrate ability to coordinate with lab personnel and other vendors as needed in preparation for lab demos, training events and live surgical cases.
- Execute Territory Plans at Existing Accounts & Onboard New Accounts to Achieve Territory Goals.
- Assist with onboarding of new accounts within territory, including but not limited to in-servicing neurosurgeons, residents and OR staff on appropriate equipment set up and usage in preparation for cases where NICO products will be used.
- Responsible for setting up initial in-service for new accounts to ensure hospital staff are properly trained. Must complete and submit Training Verification Form to NICO office within 24 hours.
- Ensure completion of Hands-On Skills session with each neurosurgeon who has completed MIPS course.
- Organize and lead resident training, where applicable.
- Determine any follow-up needs and/or steps to ensure compliance with the training to include checking in with OR staff every 6 months to identify if refresher training is needed.
- Collaborate with territory team to develop and execute account specific plans
- Lead follow-up training for surgeons, residents, and staff as appropriate.
- Set up BrainPath case cart at accounts, where applicable.
- Assess the users’ product competency with all products used and develop an active plan to educate and refine any shortcomings.
- Introduce new products and techniques and ensure proper training.
- Partner with sales teammates to identify and educate potential new users or procedures.
- Assess account needs and collect data as required.
- Track and report account inventory.
- Build and maintain strong relationships and trust with key contacts at designated accounts through regular communication, excellent clinical support and in-person visits.
- Support cases where NICO products will be used to ensure proper use and identify opportunities for additional appropriate use. Complete case reports within Salesforce and share with internal team.
- Responsible for addressing any and all operating issues within the account to include:
- Product complaints and quality issues, including reportable events
- Billing issues
- Ongoing orders
- Assist with onboarding of new accounts within territory, including but not limited to in-servicing neurosurgeons, residents and OR staff on appropriate equipment set up and usage in preparation for cases where NICO products will be used.
Requirements
- 2+ years of Operating Room experience, preferably in neurosurgical procedures
- 2+ years of experience working for a medical device vendor in a customer-facing field role.
- Knowledge of neurosurgical procedures, neuroanatomy, and medical terminology a plus
- Must effectively develop strategies and execute plans with a team to achieve common goals.
- Must have a willingness and desire to work independently, be flexible and travel extensively.
- Must schedule travel in the most efficient and effective manner to maximize time.
- Must demonstrate ability to listen to understand other’s needs before presenting most appropriate solutions.
- Must demonstrate excellent coaching/teaching skills along with written and oral communication skills.
- Must have excellent telephone, e-mail, and computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to plan ahead effectively and anticipate last minute changes to schedule.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and proven ability to make independent decisions
- Ability to prioritize tasks, create strategic plan and implement plan accordingly.
- Ability to work collaboratively with management team, peers and customers.
- Proactive in seeking opportunities to contribute and desire to grow into a sales role a plus.
- Ability to enter an OR without risk of personal health (prefer Reptrax, Symplr and Vendormate credentialed).
- Must present themselves with a professional and friendly demeanor.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
